The Barker family lived in Payette, New Plymouth and Fruitland, where Dad graduated. A year or two later, Dad, rode his Harley to the Gay Way Bowl, he noticed Mom (Norma) there and got up the nerve to invite her for a ride. Mom was there with another date, but had always wanted Dad’s attention, so, she left with Dad; the rest is history. After completing a stint in the Air Force from 1943 to 1946 and exchanging letters with Mom, Dad got an honorable discharge and arrived in Boise, where he soon after proposed to our mother; with marriage came four children: Cherie Derrick married to Dave, with two kids from a previous marriage, Shawn and Stacia Bergseng; Bruce Barker married to Mag with grandson Eric; Ross Barker married to Donna; and Jim Barker married to Christy, with two more grandkids, Mike and Stephanie from a previous marriage. A real bonus was having four great grandchildren: Brody, Chase, Ty and Julia! Clayton, my Daddy, was a man of all trades; farming, pilot, tree topper (palm trees), some mechanics, a little work on an oil rig, and a retired carpenter. He was an avid swimmer, did some deep-sea diving, a weight lifter, hunter and fisherman. Yes, a real hero in his family’s eyes! In October 2015, Mom got ill and went into a nursing home. Dad was by her side constantly until she passed away on November 11, 2015 at the age of 89. Yes this is a true love story, Dad was still very spry at 93, but after living with Mom almost 69 years, he lost his interest in living. Dad passed away early Tuesday morning February 16 at his home, a little over 3 months after his beloved wife! Dad did it his way, no hospitals for him! He has joined Mama now and that’s how he wanted it! We will miss them forever! ~ Their Daughter Cheri DerrickClayton Arthur Barker was born in 1922 at Patterson, California to Art and Marcia Barker. His brother “Buddy” (born 1927), was tragically killed at two years of age! No other siblings came along!
