Obituary for William Richard Smith

William Richard Smith, 89, was born on April 15, 1927. Richard entered into the great hunting ground in the sky on June 2, 2016 with his wife at his side. His favorite times were spent following his hounds on a trail or walking in to fish a lake with his great friend Marty McCarty. He taught each of his 5 sons to hunt and fish, instilling the same love of outdoors in all of them. He enlisted in the United States Navy on April 12, 1945. He served most of his time on the Japanese island of Saipan, enlarging the airport for the United States’ B-29 bomber missions. After his enlistment, he met Sibyl Laramore. They married January 1, 1948 in Reno, Nevada. He became a certified lumber grader and worked several years grading lumber. Later he moved on to become a timber faller. Over the years he had 18 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Sibyl; sons, Johnny Richard (Patti) Smith, Randy Lee (Terri) Smith, and Martin Gregory (Vicki) Smith all of New Meadows, Idaho, James Arlie (Angie) Smith of Fruitland, Idaho, Robert Michael (Connie) Smith of Boise, Idaho; and his Aunt Marie Coy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents William Arlie Smith (6/16/88) and Jessie Mae "Holly" Smith (9/2/03), brother Vernon Dale Smith (5/19/02), sister Alma Kayrene Coker (5/19/16), granddaughter Idella, grandson John, and a great grandson Michael. Services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, June 10th at the Church of the Nazarene in Payette, Idaho. Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel.
